Automotive: destination Brazil

The Brazilian automotive market remains one of the most significant globally, ranking 10th worldwide and 8th in vehicle production. In Brazil, 31 automotive groups operate 67 production plants. The sector includes over 580 companies that produce or import vehicle components, 5,800 dealerships, 120,000 mechanical workshops, and 65 distributor groups. This sector accounts for 3.5% of the national GDP and 20% of the industrial GDP, employing around 1.3 million people. As of 2022, Brazil remains the world’s 12th largest economy.

Imports and Aftermarket Sector

In 2022, the automotive sector imported USD 17 billion, of which USD 13 billion were in spare parts. The most imported components include gearboxes, engines, electronic systems, and brakes. As before, imported products must be certified by the Brazilian standards body INMETRO.

The aftermarket remains a strategic sector, with an estimated value of around USD 22 billion annually, fueled by 70 million vehicles in circulation. This sector serves a wide range of customers, including wholesalers, mechanical workshops, e-commerce, and retail sellers.

Production and Sales

In 2022, vehicle production in Brazil reached approximately 2.4 million units, including cars, vans, trucks, and buses. With a population of 215 million, the ratio of vehicles per capita is roughly 1 vehicle for every 5 inhabitants, confirming a dynamic automotive market that is still evolving compared to more mature markets like the U.S. or Europe.

Trade Fair Opportunity

The AUTOMEC fair in São Paulo remains the key event, offering a unique opportunity to establish new partnerships and connect with automotive industry leaders, both locally and internationally.
